You finally pulled that Mythic unit you've been saving gems for, slotted them into your raid team, and watched them get carried by a free Epic on someone else's account. Welcome to Anime Vanguards in 2026, where the rarity color on a unit's banner is barely a hint at how they'll actually perform in current content.
I've been deep in this game since Update 4, running endless Rifts, Portals, and Infinite Castle floors, and the unit hierarchy has shifted hard since the Solo Leveling collab dropped. Half the units that were S-Tier last season are dead weight now, and a few "off-meta" picks have quietly become must-haves for endgame.
The State of Anime Vanguards in 2026
Anime Vanguards is comfortably the #1 anime tower defense game on Roblox, regularly pulling tens of thousands of concurrent players across its servers. The 2026 updates have leaned hard into team synergy and elemental advantages, which means raw stats matter less than how a unit slots into a specific composition.
The current meta has three major archetypes: AOE wave-clearers, single-target boss melters, and support utility (buffers, debuffers, and damage amplifiers). The best teams blend all three. If your team is six DPS units with no buff coverage, you'll wall on infinite mode no matter how strong your individual picks are.
Mythic and Secret units still dominate the top tiers, but a handful of Legendary units stay competitive thanks to their utility roles. The biggest shift in 2026 is that pure damage is no longer king. Units that hit hard but provide zero team utility have been quietly demoted, while units with debuff stacking or party buffs have skyrocketed.
This list assumes max evolution where applicable, fully traited (Blitz, Solar, Ethereal, etc.), and placement on a meta-friendly map. PvE content drives the rankings, but I'll note where a unit shifts up or down in different game modes.
S-Tier: The Endgame Cornerstones
These are the units that carry teams through the hardest content. If you have these, your roster is legitimately ready for any raid.
Igris (Knight) is still the best single-target boss-killer in the game after his rework. The damage scaling on his evolved form is absurd, his attack range was extended to fix his biggest weakness, and his synergy with Sung Jinwoo (Beast) creates one of the highest DPS compositions you can field. Mandatory for boss rifts.
Igros (Marshal) somehow took a Mythic-tier unit and made him better. His third evolution scales with placement count, meaning the longer the wave goes, the more he hits like a truck. He's the best mixed-content unit in the game, equally strong for waves and bosses.
Vogita (Mastered) is the king of endless mode. His ultimate ability stacks indefinitely, meaning a Vogita that survives long enough on infinite content essentially auto-clears the floor. Pair him with a healer and watch your run go forever.
Saber (Stay/Night) got a quiet glow-up this year. Her single-target burst is among the highest in the game, and her new passive grants temporary buffs to adjacent allies. She's both a DPS and a budget support — extremely rare combo.
Naruto (Six Paths) is the all-content menace. AOE clears through his summons, single-target damage on his ult, and a passive that boosts your entire team's attack speed. There's no game mode where he's a bad pick.
A-Tier: Top-Tier With Specific Niches
A-Tier units are absolutely fine to build your account around. They just have a clear "best at" rather than being universally overpowered.
Sosuke (Empowered) is the best AOE wave-clearer in the game right now. His ground-target ult deletes entire wave packs, and his evolution gave him a massive range buff. Drop him on Story for the fastest clear times.
Vogita SS Blue is the bridge between F2P-friendly and meta-defining. Easier to obtain than full Mastered Vogita and still pulls his weight in mid-tier content.
Cha Hae-In went from "okay support" to one of the best buffers in the game with her debuff-strip mechanic. She's not flashy, but pair her with Igris and watch his damage triple.
Slime (King) is a fantastic mixed-role unit. Decent damage, solid range, and his Mimicry passive gives huge utility because he can copy other Mythic abilities. Underrated absolute beast.
Whitebeard (Mythic) still has the highest single-tap damage in the game on his quake ult. The catch is he's slow to charge, so he's strict to bosses and slow waves rather than a flexible all-rounder.
B-Tier: Reliable Mid-Game Picks
These units carry you through Story and into early endgame. They start to fall off in the highest-difficulty raids, but they're nowhere near useless.
Friran (Mage) has decent AOE and a fun freeze mechanic that buys your team time on tougher waves. Cheap to deploy and easy to evolve, which makes her a solid F2P-tier choice.
Goko Blue (Saiyan) has fallen from his S-Tier glory days but still holds the line in raids. His ult is reliable, his auto-attack damage is fine, and he doesn't need a specific team comp to function.
Don is criminally fun to use and surprisingly potent in event content. His chain-attack mechanic shreds grouped enemies, but he struggles when waves spread out.
Rogita (Super) is a solid Legendary that overperforms in lower-difficulty content. Don't sleep on him while you're grinding for Mythics.
Madara has a strong single-target ult but lacks the consistent damage to keep up with S-Tier picks. Decent in story mode, mid in raids.
C-Tier: Beginner-Friendly or Outclassed
C-Tier units are fine when you're starting out, but they should be bench-warmers once your roster fills out.
Itachi (Akatsuki) used to be meta. Now he's a fine starter Mythic but gets outscaled by literally any S-Tier pick. Keep him for sentimental value.
Erwin (Brave) has utility through his rallying buff but minimal damage. Niche pick.
Roger (Captain) is basic but competent. Not bad, not great, just there.
Megumin is a pure burst-damage gimmick. Fun, situational, and not really viable in current endgame content where bosses don't sit still long enough for her one-shot setup.
Levi (Captain) has a strong ult cooldown but middling sustained damage. His evolution helps, but he's still a B/C borderline pick at best.
D-Tier: Skip or Sacrifice
You'll likely roll these through summons. Don't invest evolution materials.
Eren (Founding) is technically a Secret-rarity unit, but his current performance does not match his rarity color. He'll probably get reworked, but for now, don't sink resources.
Zenitsu (Demon Slayer) is severely outdated. The damage is fine in early content but evaporates by mid-game.
Light (Detective) is a meme pick. Useful in zero serious content.
Universal Tips for Anime Vanguards Players
Here's what I've learned grinding endgame content:
Team comp beats raw rarity. A perfectly synergized team of A-Tier units will outperform a random collection of Mythics. Build around buffers, debuffers, and damage amplifiers.
Evolution materials are precious. Don't dump materials into a Mythic just because it's Mythic. Look up its evolved kit first. Some Mythic evolutions are sidegrades while some are total reworks.
Trait reroll is worth gem investment. Blitz, Solar, and Ethereal traits dramatically change a unit's effective tier. An A-Tier unit with Blitz often outperforms an S-Tier unit with Swift.
Don't waste gems on event banner pulls without rate-up. Standard banner is generally a worse value once events drop. Save your gems for collab banners with discounted rates.
Replay strategies matter as much as units. Some maps reward chokepoint placements; others want spread coverage. Adjust your unit positioning per map, not just your roster.
